Default Moving to Charleston from Canada

Hey everyone,
after reading all the posts and also the replies my previous questions, I have found that most people are advising to move to Summerville, MtP, james island and I think I also read Daniels Island. My question is what about Charleston? How is it in the actual city? Family oriented? crime? Schools?
I understand that it is not a huge city but combining all the suburbs, I imagine that it is.
Thanks to everyone who as help and I find that the response are very welcoming except for the people that told all northerns to stay away LOL!
Hoping to see all soon!

Daniel Island, West Ashley, James Island, etc., generally all have Charleston, SC addresses, just different zip codes.

Downtown Charleston (also referred to as the Charleston peninsula) is the actual city that you think of and imagine when someone says "Charleston". Antebellum homes, shopping, theaters, world-class restaurants, etc. As you cross the Ashley river you'll hit a few other parts of Charleston, i.e. West Ashley, James Island, etc. John's Island is slightly further out, and parts of it are in the city limits of Charleston, others aren't.

Daniel Island is farther west along 26, but regardless of its distance from downtown, it's still inside the Charleston city limits. The Charleston city limits are fairly large, and the areas differ greatly in offerings. Taking into account all of the parts of the lowcountry that have been annexed into Charleston city over the years, there could be a world of difference between one part of Charleston and another, as well as the neighboring cities of Mount Pleasant and Summerville.

Each has its own flavor and appeal. Seeing them first-hand is certainly the best way to find out which would fit you and your lifestyle!

There are some great neighborhoods in both Hanahan and North Charleston, I wouldn't rule them out completely. It really depends on what you're looking for, what you would like to see in your neighborhood, and how close you'd rather be to work, play, schools, etc.
