Moving to Dan. Island from MA
Hi...
My husband and I and our 2 little ones have been thinking, planning and researching a move to the Charleston area for about six months now. We live in MA (I grew-up in Baltimore) so this will be a big move for us and we want to make the right choice. My husband finally got why I want to move to the area last weekend when we went down again to house hunt. We have looked all over (god bless our agent!) and have decided that we really like Daniel Island. So...we are hope to buy a lot this week!!! I guess my question is...AM I missing anything? We have gone and looked at the schools, we have talked to tons of people, we have been down 4 times over the past 6 months (my husband is going again this week) and WE HAVE not heard ONE negative thing about the area...it is too good to be true OR it is truely a great place to live. Coming from the NE area you can't help but be sceptical. We do love it there and hope that we are making a good choice for our family.
Thanks
Also...would love to hear from other in the MA area making the move or that have moved.

I'm from outside of Philly and it is really that awsome! Some people bash DI, but we're going to be building there. All the areas are great, but I love DI because of the community, natural beauty and convenience. I don't know..just something about it! Good luck!

Hi...where in DI are you building? My husband is leaving tomorrow to look at lots in Smythe Park. We looked at both sides of the island and really liked Smythe Park. Maybe we'll be neighbors! Cross your fingers for us that we get a lot...
Thanks for the imput.

Hi Susanne,
My husband & I just moved to DI about 6 weeks ago from RI. It's a big change from New England, but so far the change has all been for the better. Like you, we were researching online and hoping that DI would be all it appeared to be. I was really worried that there was some deep dark secret that I would be hit with when we got here.
Happily, this move has been even better than we expected. The entire region is beautiful, with a friendly positive attitude. Like thchick mentioned, the sense of community and convenience on DI is like nothing I've ever experienced before.
The only negative reaction I've heard about DI is the cost in relation to the size of homes & lots. Coming from New England, we were used to dense neighborhood design, and actually prefer the walkability that comes with smaller lot sizes. It's just a personal preference thing, I think. For us, the community aspects of living here make it worth the extra cost per square foot.
We're renting right now, and will be building soon in the Old Landing section of Smythe Park. My husband will be happy to have another Red Sox fan in the neighborhood!

Another Sox Fan on Daniel Island
For those of you that chose Daniel Island, what factors made you decide to go there?
We are also in the final stages of deciding on a move to Charleston from the Boston area. We have 3 kids 9,6 and 19 months and have exhausted all possible resources on the internet and are heading down next month for a visit. We like Mount Pleasant and Daniel Island and I guess we will have to see both to decide. Its a tough decision as you all know, and any guidance you can give would be great. Our price range is between $800,000 and $1,000,000, the job thing isn't an issue and would love to find a great little catholic school for the kids.....there is a Starbuck's...right?

I live on DI sorry no starbucks; the new elementary/middle school is worth a look - wonderful. Just in case u need it there is a childcare facility on the island. I love Queen Anne's Revenge, Sienna and the other small restaurants in the area. You cant go wrong with food in any of them. Since you have young impressionable children, diversity is disappointedly & eerily very limited. All in all it's a nice safe place to live. Good Luck

Di
This is the low country, right? Are there lots of snakes? Just got introduced to this part of Charleston last week. We have 2 young adult children and 2 dogs.
The more I read about it, the more I like.

I'm from Baltimore! DI is paradise compared to Baltimore! I don't live on DI but i've been there a few times to shop and it's so lovely. It's really it's own little chunk out of the hustle and bustle of Charleston and the only time I find it to be too busy is when the Family Circle Cup is taking place.

Have you done your research on schools? Private schools are the better alternative to public schools in SC.
