info/advice about art institute and charleston/surrounding areas (school, to live)

I am thinking about moving to the Carolinas when I graduate in a year. Im wondering about going to the Art Institute for photography in Charleston. Can someone give me any info or advice on Charleston and the surrounding areas.... affordable to live close to the beach and the school? Basically, have no idea about the area, any info or advice would be greatly appreciated.
