Default Why do you live in Mount Pleasant???

Help!! Thanks to everyone who replied to my previous post, but I still can't seem to get a good idea of what life is like in Mount Pleasant...or Daniel Island for a young family with three kids. We are desperately trying to make a decision about moving down there from the Boston area and are coming down there in July to look around...or sooner I hope. I would love to hear why it's residents love it and are we searching for something that doesn't exist, is it too good to be true??? We are from the northeast, so forgive the doubt...no one here seems to understand why we want to move down to Charleston, are we crazy to do this? Some neighborhood ideas would be helpful too.....our price range is from $800,000 - $1,000,000 and we have researched I'on and Daniel Island....any more suggestions are welcome...please. People here say we will never leave.....we want to.

Hope you got my e-mail! Both Mt. P and DI are great. You'll be happy wherever you go. I would really check out the school you want. You don't to fall in love with a neighborhood and then have to commute 30 min. to school. Ride bikes around the neighborhoods you're interested in! You can take all the advise you want, but you really need to come down experience it yourself. Also, what amenities are you looking for? That could also be a factor.

Good luck and do it now! You won't regret it!

I'd also recommend checking into Rivertowne (especially back closer to the river). There are plenty of young families and plenty of young kids similar in ages to yours in that community.

There are many reasons why families choose to live in Mt. Pleasant, even though homes are more expensive than in further out communities. Certainly the quality of the schools, relatively low crime rate, low property taxes, convenience, shopping, restaurants, amenities and geographic diversification of it's residents are just some of the reasons. As a picture speaks a thousand words, I thought that the link to the following slide show may be of help to those considering different Charleston communities to which to relocate.

Hi...

We are in the same boat! While maybe are are a little further along in our decision process since we just bought a lot on Daniel Island. We are from MA (25 min. west of Boston) and we have been looking to move to the Charleston area since October...for no other reason than I just love it and it seems like a great place to live and raise our kids. My husband took a little longer to "get it" but our last trip down it all clicked and he can't move fast enough. So...it was very random how we picked the area to start with but we REALLY checked out both Mt. Plesant and DI and in the end we likes DI. Our price point is the same as yours and we lucked out and got a GREAT agent that really showed us around to all neighbors in the start of our such. She lives in I'On and is also a transplant. I think that we loved the weather, the fact that most people in the area moved there for the same reason we are...and it sound like you are as well. And trust us ...we too thought that the area was "too good to be true" so we did a ton on research and have been there several times...and WE STILL CAN"T FIND ANYTHING NEGATIVE.

So, if you want to chat more please do since I know how hard it is to move your family and to make that decision.

Susanne

I love the neighborhood feeling, community schools, style of homes,. I love the proximity to the beach, downtown charleston's history and food. I love being able to see water everyday. I love that I go to a community event and see people I know like my doctor, lawyer, neighbor and it feels like home. I have moved alot in my life and this is my favorite place.

You would be happy in either. I'm an elementary school teacher and both have INCERDIBLE schools. Private school education for a public school cost!!

I am curious where you are a teacher? I sub in our current area and am looking for some advice on the best for Middle/High and Elementary. I have 3 boys who have had a good education so far, and we are relocating for my husbands job. We may eliminate DI because of the high school. Is that a valid reason? The community is beautiful. We have also eliminated Rivertowne and Park West b/c of the commute down 17 to North Charleston, is it really bad in the mornings heading south down 41 and 17 to get on 526 or 26 back up to North Charleston or the airport? Would like an opportunity to sub in SC. Is it hard to get your foot in the door, so to speak? Thank you for the information, it's all very overwhelming!
Sydster in Canton, GA!
