Default Question about Amtrak Train Station in North Charleston

My family and I are coming into Charleston by train in June for vacation. We arrive around 6 am in the morning, and have rented a car but are deciding if we should wait a couple hours for the rental car company to come pick us up and we should take a taxi to the rental car place. Is there anything around the train station that is in walking distance, any restaurants for breakfast? We'll have kids with us as well. Is the train station in an okay area?

Thanks!

No! Do not plan on walking. It is in a bad area of North Charleston and the area around the station is very rundown. My daughter left from there once and the train station itself is not impressive or very big, not someplace I would want to hang around for a couple hours. My advice would be to get a taxi right away and get to your rental car.

p.s. I recommend Charleston Black Cab. Charleston Black Cab Company

I agree. You do not want to hang out around the train station.

Everyone is correct on this one. I am taking the train on Friday up to Union Station in DC. The area around the station is filled with vagrants and is in the epitome of the ghetto. Get a cab and DON'T walk anywhere!

thanks so much for the info. Would Black Cab Company be the most reasonable? We are going with my parents and 2 brothers so there will be 8 of us. We were thinking maybe my husband and father take the taxi and would go get the rental cars and come back for us, but now I am thinking maybe we will just all go.

Great Gatsby, man! Don't leave the women and children behind! My suggestion:

1. Call cab company on cell as you approach, using secret code,
2. Walk, nay, RUN off train to cab
3. Get in, slam and lock door and breathlessly yell "DRIVE!"

If you drop something or someone, leave them behind. Oh the horror! It's too late for them.

Black Cab is good. Yellow Cab (843) 577-6565 is also fine. Black Cab is a little nicer. There are others like North Charleston Taxi etc., but I would stick with these two.

Do a little Googling and look up one of the airport limo services. They will be happy to bring a van to transport everyone.
