No one answered the post about a "sturdy" house and if brick would be better. I have been wondering the same thing. I am leaning towards only buying a brick house because it seems to make sense to me that it would hold up better during a hurricane, but I don't know that for a fact.
Opinions?

I think you'll find brick has better wind and flying debris resistance, but if water becomes an issue, it will be tougher to dry the home out. On a seperate note, I found that earthquake insurance was higher for a brick home.

I'm hoping that Summerville is far enough inland that you would not have to worry about a tidal surge. The earthquake insurance thing is interesting though. I wonder why brick homes are more? I will look into it and if I find out why I will post it.
