Default Charleston or Myrtle?

3 or 4 guys looking to go either to Myrtle or Charleston for the 4th. Looking for help making the decision. We know we can probably charter a fishing boat at either location.....how about nightlife for a couple of single dudes? what else does each location have to offer, none of us has ever been. Thanks in advance.

You really can't go wrong with either place although they have totally different feels. here is a recent thread on the nightlife in MB:
http://www.city-data.com/forum/south...tle-beach.html

There's a little bit of everything in Charleston.

Have fun!

IMHO, Myrtle Beach equals beach, golf, amusement parks, and lots of people.
Charleston would be my choice if I wanted to do some fishing.
Now, there is also plenty of golf in Charleston and the beaches are great too, it's just that Myrtle Beach exists specifically for entertaining people from out of town. (Once again, my opinion) If I want to go to the beach with the tourists and get the full vacation feel, I head to MB, but if I want to go to the beach with the college crowd and more of a local feel, I head to Sullivans, Folly, or Isle of Palms. Either way, you should have a great time. Don't forget the sunscreen!

I'm still trying to figure out how "romance" got thrown into this thread. I think the guys might have more fun in Myrtle if looking for the excitement/party crowd. If you'd rather avoid tens of thousands of others tourists and still have great bars and nightlife and be 15 minutes from the beaches, then Charleston might be the better choice.

Thanks DJ, I was also confused about the 'romance' thing. Appreciate everyone's feedback. Still undecided though

I think it was a matter of punctuation that gave the problem with this post... Read it again with punctuation (as I interpreted it)

Simple, Charleston is a real city & Myrtle Beach is a tourist trap. Depends on what you like.

Thanks KerryB. With that being said though, will the 'touristy' place have more bars/restaurants and other entertainment stuff that a coupl'a guys would need for a fun weekend, moreso than a "real city"? I'm thinking the 'real city', you'd want to spend more time getting to know the area, 'site seeing' if you will, than 'doing things'. Again, just a guess, as I am not familiar with either area/
