Cement Plank Construction
Can anyone tell me if mold is a problem with cement plank exterior? I had a friend tell me there can be serious issues with mold build up on cement plank in humid climates. Thanks for the responses.

HardiPlank is really fiber cement siding, it's like putting a piece of driveway on the exterior of your home. Its fairly heavy, takes two people to lift up a piece at times and install it on your home. It's got a 50 year warranty on defects in the material, which would be blistering, rotting or cracking, water damage, hail damage or termites, none of that should happen with this product. Termites don't like it; you've never seen a driveway eaten by termites. The thing about HardiPlank is you have to paint it, so if you're the kind of person who likes to change the color of your home from time to time, then HardiPlank is probably the product for you.

Also, if you go to this site James Hardie: Siding Products Comparison Guide they have a table comparison on HardiPlank (Cement Fiber Board) vs. Wood vs. Vinyl

I have not heard of ANY increase in Cement Plank over the others. I like it very much, but then again stucco & asbestos seemed pretty good at the time too. Considering using Cypress at all?

Haven't considered Cypress - is that pretty durable in those weather conditions down there? I know right now it's between cement plank or brick, Jim. We are getting closer and closer to the open house sign, so we'll be in touch.

Stick with Brick & Cement Plank.
Cypress is TOO custom.
You guys are missing some great stuff down here,
I hope you don't go through another 'Big Dig'!
