Default Job Market in Charleston area?

We are planning to move to the Charleston area w/i the next 6 months. I currently work from home for a national computer company, so I can take my job with me. But my 28 yr old daughter is a kitchen designer. I've found about 8 companies that do kitchen design, but I'm hoping someone can tell me what the general job market's like. I'm worried that we'll buy a townhouse but may not be able to find work. Can you give me your thoughts on the general job market? Thanks very much.

That's always a risk in movi9ng to a new area. The catch-22 is that finding a job while you're -not- local is always a bit more difficult, and very few people like to move to a new area without already having a job lined up. In addition to speaking with the local kitchen design companies, have some fall-back jobs. Put together a list of the local leading spec home builders and custom home builders, commercial construction companies, for your daughter to show off her design skills too. The job market in Charleston's no worse than the rest of the country, and generally better in many specific areas/businesses. I can't comment as to kitchen designers though.

The answer to your question is simple, there is not a job market in Charleston. I've lived here for over 4 years and the lack of job quality is still the biggest complaint I hear amongst my co-workers. Of course given today's market, it's much worse (our higher degrees and experience do not equate to very much Moreover, I'm considering moving back to my hometown of Jacksonville, Fla where it seems to be somewhat better.
