School guidance positions in Charleston area (home, job market, transfer)

I am currently looking into a job transfer to Charleston from Las Vegas, and I was hoping that teachers on this site could provide some help. My wife has a Bachelors in Education and recently finished her Masters in School Guidance. She worked for several years as a college recruiter prior to staying home with our kids and finishing her Counseling Degree. We are wondering what the school guidance job market is like in the Charleston area and whether teaching experience is required in order to obtain a school counseling position. Teachers in particular, do all of the counselors you work with come from the classroom or is teaching experience not required? We are very interested in the Charleston area but a bit concerned that the humidity might kill us! Thanks for your help.
