Default North Charleston Communities

I have heard that North Charleston can be very "rough" and possibly dangerous in parts. I assume they are probably the industrial and airport areas of the city.

Can anyone tell me if the apparently very nice communities like Coosaw Creek, etc are impacted by being part of North Chas? How about schools, taxes, municipal activities such as jury duty, going to couthouses, etc. Is it best to stay away from being attached to a rough city?

Thanks for any help I get!

North Charleston has it's great neighborhoods! "pockets" of older, impressive ones, but also the Noisette area off N. Rhett Blvd is awesome, Park Circle is great, all extremely up and coming and building "green" homes and attracting higher end buyers.....the Mixson neighborhood is a mini-I'on and brand new, and Hunley Waters is starting around the $300's and up and is all "green"....etc. etc...and yet, close to the airport as well as close to the new train/bus station they are building....

The only good N. Chas schools that I know of are those that are in Dorchester 2. Charleston Co. schools aren't great and the N. Charleston ones don't have very good reputations (with the exception of Pepperhill which is a great school with a great faculty!)

7th most dangerous and 20th most deadly city in the country... N.Chuck has pockets of good areas, the rest is pretty much a wash... if you don't know the city real well I wouldn't advise you to move anywhere in it because chances are real high you'd move somewhere you wished you hadn't... there are good places in it, but you need to know exactly where they are and usually there's only a thin line between them and some of the worse... if you're a single guy move anywhere you want, scope it out on a weekend night to see who's hanging out where to give u better perspective of peopleif you have kids find another town... lol... no offense meant to anyone already living there, I just don't see any reason why someone would move there except for financial reasons because there are some cheaper places to live there... but IMHO if you value your kids education find another place

We looked at a house in Park Circle last year while house hunting and it was very nice. The neighborhood was nice (back off of Rivers....way back in the back) and quiet. We didn't buy because we were not impressed with North Charleston as a whole to raise a family. It is very dirty and crime ridden in many areas and that just reminds me of Baltimore, MD all too much.

Good advice. If you're thinking about moving, visit first! We made the mistake of moving here (military transfer) sight unseen and ended up in the Harbour Lake area of Goose Creek with two little boys. NOT a good thing by any means, I was never happier to own a German Shepherd Dog before in my life if you get my gist. Do your homework and visit!

yea that's a bad area at times, it's where Daniel Hires lived as well... the guy that killed his Brazilian wife and has been all over America's Most Wanted every since, still haven't found him... frequent shootings and full of drugs down that road... I lived in GC off of Redbank Rd. for about 5 yrs before I moved to S'Ville

Another point someone made tonight (a friend that lives in Goose Creek)...if you live in the Park Circle area, even the nicer communities around there, you can smell the paper mill when the wind blows your way. Ew.
