None of the above. The alligators travel between the ponds on National Drive because there is an underground pipe system that connects them. If you look at a map you will see a very large pond on National Drive right where it meets Rifle Range/Porchers Bluff. The momma and baby gather in the reeds in the SE corner, but there is also a large pair that bask on the banks on the pond on the corner of National and Egrets Point. Those are the two ponds we see them in most often, but we have seen them in nearly all of the ponds along National. I've never seen them in the other ponds in the neighborhood, but they may be there as well. The ponds you circled are behind the gates, and I'm afraid I don't get to spend a lot of time in the million dollar part of my neighborhood.
Yes to the bottom pond, although they actually lay right by National Drive, so move your circle a little to the right. You were close on the top pond. See the long narrow pond right by the main road, just to the right of your circle? They lay right on the top left bank of that one. When I get home I'll share pics of them for you.
Just got back from a trip to Charleston. Wife and I are thinking about relocating from CT. We were looking in Hamlin Plantation and saw no less than 5 alligators on different ponds. I have a friend who lives in Rivertowne and I've visited him several times over the past 5 years without seeing a single gator before.
Hasn't reduced our desire to move there, though the mere thought of snakes gives me the heebie jeebies and the bugs were pretty bad too. Do people spray their yards for mosquitoes like we do for tics up here?
