West Ashley
Ok I might have a job opportunity on Sam rittenburg blved which i think is in west ashley. Does anyone know where the best place to rent an apartment that's safe and reasonable for a 28 year old single male? I went to an interview recently and a lady at the citadel mall said i would need to have a bullet proof vest and a gun if i lived near here. I'm freaked out haha! any thoughts?

ahemmmm stay away from anything that says orleans... savage road runs right behind that and it's named that for a reason...right there between where they built Citadel Mall and Savage road used to be the worse area in West Ashley, Orleans rd joins them... even after they built the mall and the hud housing and business complexes all around that area it still didn't change a whole lot... bad area... Parsonage Apts not too far down hwy 61 in Pierpont are some really good apts, as are several others on 61 a cpl miles past the Wallenberg rd area towards Beesferry rd...hwy 7, also known as Sam Rittenberg Blvd has changed a lot in the last 15 yrs... all those apts off of Ashley Hall rd that back all the way up to Sam Rittenberg used to be excellent apts, a great place to live... but they've changed pretty drastically, I used to live in what's now called West Village Apts back in the mid 80's but I wouldn't live anywhere near there now

Apartments back up Glen McConnell would be fine, i.e Heron's Reserve.

I agree with DJShymansky. I would look there on out in the direction of Bees Ferry Rd.

I would say "don't restrict yourself to West Ashley" ... Why not look downtown? There are plenty of apartments (look near the College of Charleston or MUSC) - you could live downtown for a year, enjoy what the city has to offer and get familiar with the area before deciding where to live.

James Island, along Folly Rd., as well, would work out fine.
