Question Moving to South Carolina, Charleston Area, need advices on places to rent

My husband and I are moving to the Charleston area, SC at the end of September/beginning of October. I have been looking at apartment complex without really knowing which one to choose. We are looking to stay in the Mount Pleasant area. Also, we are owners of a large chihuahua, so we are looking at rentals that will allow us to keep our pet.
Can someone give me some information on where to live? Some areas to avoid? I found a lot of condos for rent, but is there a website for house rentals beside craigslist? We want to keep the rent to a reasonable amount...
Any help/information will be greatly appreciated!!!!
Thanks!!!!

Most local realtors' websites will also list rentals in their MLS searches. That's a good source to turn to if craigslist isn't working and you're actually looking to rent a house, not an apartment.

we used Charleston Real Estate Guide.com™ when we rented, but ended up finding the house from craigs list. several realestate agents in the area sent us a list of rentals also,so contact one of them.

We very recently relocated to Charleston and rented an apt. at Shadowmoss Pointe in West Ashley, its off of Bees Ferry Road. It was by far one of the nicest complexes that we looked at, and we looked at a lot in West Ashley. Rent was reasonable and the location is pretty central. We looked in Mount Pleasant but the rent was much higher and the commute to work was longer. Sabal Palms was also a nice one. I think they both allow pets. Good luck with your search!
