Sooner or later it will be us... Hopefully this storm weakens before landfall tomorrow and we avoid another Katrina.

Keep an eye on Hanna. While not very impressive right now, models indicate strenthening and a possible SC landfall late next week.

Our church already combined with some other Baptist churches in the area and sent some buses full of men down today. They're waiting on the outskirts of the evacuation area and will be ready to jump into action after the storm. They're equipped with tools, food, grills, etc. to help rebuild and do some Lowcountry cooking....will be staying at some local churches down there. Some more are going down on Tuesday. I would if I didn't have to work. But I gave money instead.

the storm is/was about a cat1 when it came ashore, not a cat3 like the news is protraying... I don't think it's that big of a deal unless the levees don't hold from the rain etc...86mph sustained winds the last I heard, I've stood outside in worse... they can thank the man above for this one calming down and moving west

While they haven't found surface winds yet of Category 3 strength, the barometric pressure of 954 mb does indicate a Category 3 hurricane, so they're not out of the woods yet. It doesn't look as bad as it could have been, though.

If the levees hold then they should be in good shape. Remember Katrina wasn't that bad it was the levees/flooding.

speaking of standing outside during hurricanes, they are showing people doing just that and walking the streets in NewOrleans now... now just to pray that the levees hold up and all will be ok

Keeping them in my thoughts, LOVE that there are buses of men going down there to help and cook.

They'll need it, and they'll be so appreciative that there are everyday people taking action to help them and care for them.

Looks like they dodged what could have been the "big one". Other than some minor flooding, it looks like the Big Easy and surrounding cities made it through relatively unscathed....unless I missed something. Now, it may be our turn next, though Hanna doesn't look like it will be anything worth evacuating for. Pray hard that it turns northward and stays in the ocean.
