Kiawah Island
My husband and I took a vacation to Charleston last fall and had an amazing time! In fact it was so wonderful we decided to come back to the area this fall as well! This time instead of staying in downtown Charleston we are going to stay on Kiawah Island because we are hoping to rent a pet friendly cottage/beach house.
I don't know much about Kiawah except the Sanctuary is out of our price range but we do want to play the Ocean Course. I was wondering if all of Kiawah is a nice/safe place or should we only look for rentals in certain areas/neighborhoods. I have looked at some rental sites and have seen areas called West Beach, East Beach, Turtle Beach, Sparrow Cove(I think it was cove), Inlet Cove and Vanderhorst.
So what is the best area to say in while visiting Kiawah?
Thank you so very much for your help and input. Have a wonderful evening.

All of Kiawah is safe and picture-perfect....it is gated and quite exclusive. Any cottage, house, or condo you would rent there is sure to be very nice, clean, safe, and full of gorgeous views. I only live 20 minutes away, but we enjoy renting cottages for the week there - just to get away - once a year. There is so much to do, as I'm sure you know. You really don't have to leave the island for anything since they have shopping, restaurants, beaches, golf, tennis, pools, canoeing, boat excursions, bike rentals, etc. All the areas you mentioned are very nice....I guess it would depend on how close you want to be to golf vs. pool vs. beach, etc. as to which one you would prefer.

Thank you so much for the reply SCBeaches! I really appreciate knowing we won't have to worry about picking a rental that might not be very nice or not in a safe area.
Wow I didn't realize there was so much to do on Kiawah! That is great news. I will definitely research all the activities! Great to know we wouldn't have to leave the island. Of course we plan on it because we have to eat at Hanks and Cru cafe again, (lol yes we did eat our way through historic downtown Charleston last fall) and we will be participating in the Annual Fall Home and Garden Tours. We did one tour last fall and it was amazing!

Well we are quite excited as our vacation is just a few weeks away and we found a great deal on a rental cottage since it is fall and not summer!
We would like to have a nice Sunday Brunch on the Island to celebrate my mother in-laws birthday. I would great appreciate recommendations. Thank you.

You can't go wrong on Kiawah. Seriously, there is not one place that would not be nice and safe.
You mnay want to check VRBO.com - vacation rental by owner.

While, just like in Rep Dominicana, you can minimize social problems with enough security and obstacles, bear in mind that Kiawah is still a barier island, and nobody as of yet has figured out a way to fence-out a hurricane.

Fat Hen is a French/Shabby Chic restaurant on Maybank Hwy. on Johns Island, which is about 20 minutes from Kiawah. A well-known and respected local chef opened it almost 2 years ago and it is very popular with the entire Lowcountry. There is outside and inside dining, excellent food, and an extensive selection of wines. I highly recommend it!
