Hi Everyone
I am being transfered for my job to the Charleston SC area.
Need some info from people who lives there in the good living areas.
We can afford approx $300000 for a home, we like the newer developement style homes with the extras, like boating, hiking, beach access ect .....

Any idea ???

Thanks !!

HI guys,
Im considering a new job in Charleston, to move from Northern VA / Dc area.
Were looking for the same info. I hear Mt. Pleasant is really nice, alittle more expensive but the best schools.

If you want to stay in the under $300,000 range for a newer single family home in Mt. Pleasant, you will get between 1500 sqft. and 1800 sqft. in a nice neighborhood with good schools, shopping, restaurants, boating and the beach within 5-15 minutes of your home. If you want a new and/or larger home you certainly should consider the Summerville area where the costs of construction and land are less. It will be difficult at best finding a new home in Mt. Pleasant in the under $300,000 range because of the limited amount of new construction in Mt. Pleasant other than higher end "spec" homes. However, because the real estate market has settled down in the past year, you would have a good selection of homes built in the 1990-2003 time frame and well maintained.
As I suspect is the case throughout most of the country, the further you get from the major town in the area, the less expensive housing is. This is certainly the case in the Charleston area.
You have ready beach access on the Isle of Palms and Sullivan's Island. There are a number of public boat ramps and marinas in the Charleston area to give you access to water. Hiking is another matter, where I suspect the Greenville area might give you what you are looking for but at the expensive of the other amenities you mentioned or might like.

come to Mt Pleasnt, awesome schools, recreation, good new homes and wonderful neighborhoods from old to new. very close to the beach, fishing, surfing, nature preserves and forests for horseback riding , plus great golf courses and tennis everywhere, 10 minutes to downtown charleston, great upscale shopping and wonderful restaurants. Decent job growth and weather as well.

Daniel Island isn't realistic for someone looking to buy a home in the 300k price range, unless they want a condo.
