Default charleston jobs

I was reading another thread and some good advice was put on about looking into jobs (rate of pay vs. cost of living)...

That kind of makes me concerned. I work in hospitality (restaurant management). I figure there would be a good a demand for that down there. But as far as pay... does anyone have any good resources for me to look into that info? Do you think I'd be able to make enough money to deal with cost of living there, or do most people in my profession commute from not-so-nice areas? I imagine some of the business would be seasonal, being busier in the spring and summer months... but to what extent?

My girlfriend would be looking for more of a 9-5 job. She has a statistics degree, which can be applied to many things. With Charleston being a port city are there a lot of large businesses operating there? I would have figured so, but I've read some things to make me think otherwise...

Any info relating to making a living in the Charleston area would be appreciated.

I don't have any real numbers for you, but I know some people in the hospitality industry. They are not wealthy but seem okay. The ones I know don't live downtown, but live in areas that are perfectly fine.

Johnson and Wales University used to have it's campus here so the competition is pretty high.

Most of the Hospitality people I know do not live near where they work.

My sister is a head pastry chef for a casino in Atlantic City and she makes about the same as the people down here.

Good luck
