Here is the link to the school, my child was never in the elementary or middle schools in DD2 since he lived with his mother in Anderson County then. I don't know anything about this particular school other than were it is located, just up the road from DuBose Middle School.

Asking legitimate questions isn't opening up a can of worms, and you should never be embarrassed to ask.

One of the reasons you wouldn't be able to find too much information on the William Reeves Elementary school is because it is has only been open for one school year. It is one of new schools in the district that were built to help handle the overcrowding issue that DD2 now deals with.

And it has already been noted publicly that the referendum to build more schools in DD2 has been put on hold because of the bad economy.

According to the links only three schools in Dorchester II met the AYP requiremet. Rollings Middle is one of them. Would PACT scores be considered more important than AYP requirements? If a school is a Title 1 does that mean it is a lower performing school?

I mentioned before that we will be comming to visit in February, I was thinking about staying at the Holiday Inn Express in Summerville for a few days. Does anyone know of anybody that used that hotel and is it clean? We have used other Holiday Inn Express hotels in other places and never had any problems yet.

Thanks again for all the great information. These posts are very helpful, and it's nice to get input and opinions from real people other than just websites with data and numbers and facts.

They base the AYP off of the PACT scores, soon to be the PASS. Title 1 just means that they have the requisit number of free or reduced lunches (gross numbers below the poverty line) for the federal government to give them more money, has nothing to do with the performance.

AYP gets harder every year since once you are rated at excellent it is harder to make more progress unless you go backwards first.

I wouldn't stay at that HIE, it is old and getting kinka musty, the Comfort Suites, not Comfort Inn, is good and there is a new hotel closer to the Kohl's but I don't remember the name.

I have to second Comfort Inn and Suites as a great clean place to stay. We stayed there during our research trips ourselves and were very happy.

Since we were working with a Prudential agent we also got a reduced rate.

RJ17015-

Who said I was talking to you?
When I stick your name in a post, then you can infer that I'm talking to you.

Yes, my cousin has to work 80 hours a week in a surf shop to make ends meet, did I say in that sense that he's happy? No. I didn't, he's not happy because he did not live within his means in the past, and now he's got some problems because of it.

I was making an example, not an "attack". When my posts are filled with curse words and then I slap your name on it, then feel free to get upset.

Since people have a hard time understanding, let me shorten down my post, and bring out the main idea, If a person is happy with the simple things, that's fine, if a person wants to be a CEO that's fine.

And BTW, nowhere did I say a good education was not important!

RJ17015-
In the future, don't bring situations that you have no idea about into a conversation and think I'll sit back and listen. You have a sore attitude, and if you bring that attitude with you everywhere, then I don't blame people for not wanting to be around you. Oh, and by the way, I'm directly speaking to you here, just to clarify since you seem to have trouble with that.

Children can have the best education in the world, but if they've got no work ethic, and no common sense, it'll get them no where. All I'm saying is that our children need more than a good education, and if someone lives within their means, has got work ethic, and is good in a skill or talent, or education, then they'll never live paycheck to paycheck.

I could say the same to you -- who said I was talking directly to you?

Also who said I have a sore attitude -- by worrying about my kids education, and saying SC could improve their education? I think that's evident.

Who said people don't want to be around me? After living here a month I was offered a job, based solely off my personality -- they new NOTHING about me or my background.

This thread is about education, not living within our means, or work ethic -- it's about GOOD SCHOOLS -- EDUCATION!

I still say Summerville Dorchester II needs GREAT improvement, and I'm glad my kids are on the homes stretch, and almost out of school. So much so, the one class my son takes at Trident -- his instructor is shocked that he is a HS senior and only 17 - he runs circles around the college students, and has suggested he take a higher course next semester.

So MI schools must have done something right. He attends HS, one (two) college course, and works, and has been offered other jobs from his current position, he was promoted shortly after hiring in this summer, from his previous experience in MI.

Sure that great education might not guarantee my children a great job, and financial security. But I plan on giving them every advantage I can in order to help them to succeed. The other things you refer to come from home, those are things parents have to teach their children -- not the schools.

This thread is about school districts and specific schools in particular -- I believe you were the one to talk about something you know nothing about.

To OleTomCat and Imperieux:

Thanks for the hotel tips. I checked out Comfort Suites on some of the discount hotel websites and it looks good. I think we will try it.

When our trip gets closer, I will probably ask about some restaurants in Summerville.
