instead of feuding over who thinks certain places are worse than others, can people please do what the page is here for and help the select few people on here figure out where good living areas are. not everyone is going to agree but it at least gives us a glimpse as to what we are looking at. dont opinionize it.. just let us know about crime rates and ghettos/projects please.

Sorry just trying to defend North Charleston from the unfair , unbalanced, comments it gets on here.
There are areas of North Charleston i would certainly not feel safe walking in, the same goes for a lot of the surrounding towns apart from Daniel Island.
N Charleston is a large area , and it's mainly bad area (not areas) is bad , but there are certainly large areas of North Charleston that match anything around the Charleston area.

People are asking for 'opinions' -- so that's what everyone is getting. Stats/crime rates, etc. don't give you the whole picture. The feuding just shows everyone's different opinion. Good to have when trying to make your own. Sometimes there is one little thing said that I wouldn't have found out with stats, or pure fact finding.....and it can really help when you are trying to get a picture of an area.

Where I live now in Florida, I have to drive through a bad area to get to work. You just lock your car door and use common sense. And I drive home at night. There is no such thing as a totally safe area any more. I mean for pete's sake the criminals have cars.
I like hearing different opinions but some I take with a grain of salt. I am also doing research on my own and plan on visiting Charleston before I move. This way, I will know what areas I want to live in and where I would like to work. If I can I plan on having some interviews set up when I get there.

.
If you do say you say you will understand the situation as to violent crime in SC, and Charleston for that matter. FBI stats say it all.
Also, forget the NRA hype re: gun ownership and crime deterrence.

More people are killed with their own guns because of a family argument, kids getting a hold of them etc than are by a criminal. Material things can be replaced.
I do look at the FBI stats but I refuse to live in fear. You just have to have common sense and don't make yourself a target. That is why people who text or talk on the cellphone or listen to an ipod while walking are targets. They aren't paying attention.

You can name one bad area in Summerville and one bad area of W. Ashley and I can list off over ten bad areas of N. Charleston. I think a broad brush is needed to cover all of that....
You may live in one of the few good areas, what have you done help fix up the numerous bad areas that give the rest of N. Charleston a bad name?

Here is one link:
Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence (http://www.bradycampaign.org/issues/gunrisks/riskinhome/ - broken link)
There are others but just google for the others.
I won't ever own a gun but that is my choice. I am more afraid of the people who are carrying them who get ticked off with a driver who wasn't going fast enough. We had one guy do exactly that. He killed a man because he wasn't going fast enough. Watch the news and there will be stories about kids getting a hold of their parents' gun and killing either themselves or another child. Spouses who in the heat of an argument will let it escalate to the point where one will pick up a gun and shoot the other. Yes, there are stories about criminals using guns but there are more stories on the news about deaths from firearms by someone the person knew. There are also suicides that make me wonder if the person didn't have the gun there would they have been so quick to kill themselves. Just my 2 cents. If you want to own a gun fine. Just be responsible about it.

My point is why don't you at least say there are some good areas in North Charleston instead of implying the whole of North Charleston is bad.
What have i done to fix it up ??? .I did not realize it was down to me to fix up the bad area. If anything i am not speaking negatively about it, which is a damn far more than what you are doing .
