Greenville's Costco had the same price. It wasn't as chaotic here today as it was yesterday.

OMG I can feel your pain. Here in NH I was going past some gas stations and saw the price of gas go from 3.55 to 3.74/gal. But if I drove across town I still got it for 3.55/gal. I think it is BS that they have already paid for the gas in the tank but can raise the price as quick as they do. And I also agree that it is a crock that they only make 1-2 cents per gal. when they raise the price on what is already in their tanks.

One of the problems with this "new" America is that it's information system functions much like the one of the former USSR- if the reality doesn't fit the party line, the reality is either ignored or attacked.
Last Thurs in many papers nationwide (buried on one of the interior pages of the Biz Section) was a small (1/4 page) article that a capital management firm (Morgan, I believe, acting at the request of the congress) has pegged the incredible rise in gasoline over the past few years (and its subsiquent slight pullback) to speculation in the newly deregulated energy market by "institutional players" (or banks, financials) rather than supply/demand.
Please note that the Oppenheimer Fund found the same result last year- "News" which the corporate media also ignored.
We will get stuff like this (the up and down, casino-style pricing) until we re-regulate the market.
It's that simple.

The Shell stations in Mt. Pleasant, at least the ones at Mathis Ferry/Bowman Road and at 17 at Shelmore, do not have any prices listed on their marquee---both are completely devoid of numerals. Luckily, I filled up the other day, as I would hate to have to drive up to the pump to see what they're charging.

I had to do some traveling on Saturday and I filled up in Santee (thankfully didn't need a FULL tank) and the gas station was charging $4.55 a gallon
I get into the Anderson County area in the upstate, and it was roughly $3.99. That peeved me a little.
Okay so I do what I need to do and then drive back down to Charleston. I stopped at the BP on Hwy 78 and paid I think $3.66 a gallon. I'm half tempted to call someone about that first gas station I stopped at.

Don't be half-tempted. Make the call. It'll accomplish nothing in the long run, but I felt better about myself by voicing my opinion about it to the State. Maybe more people should be yelling about the way a lot of things are being done. Call a congressman. E-mail a senator. Call the State Attorney General.. They are supposed to be serving us. Give them something to do for a change. At the very least, give them something to talk about at happy hour or on the golf course!
