Does anyone have orange trees?
I thought about purchasing one, but not sure if it would tolerate our seasons. I'm assuming it will. Does anyone have any experience with these?
Thanks!

Citrus is a hit or miss from Jacksonville north.
Orange Grove subdivision/school is named after an area where the first Barbadans tried to grow them for commercial trade when SC was governed by the Eight Lord Proprietors.
They switched to rice after Henry Woodward's visit and a couple of Jan. freezes.

You could purchase one, and plant it outside in it's planter, then bring it in when the temps go down...but I don't really know of anyone that grows lots of fruit around here....

If it's an established tree it will do OK here. It may freeze off, but the tree won't die and you'll have another shot next year.
There is a pretty big one in West Ashley I know of that does very well. I also know of some banana trees in North Charleston that are huge.

Yeah tell us about the kiwis! I've never thought of trying those.
I may attempt the little orange tree in the planter, however.

How about tomatoes? How long is the veggie growing season? Is it one long season or maybe two shorter ones?
Thanks.

My uncle raised bananas one year on Arctic Ave on Folly Beach. But that was one year. Most years the tree died in Jan, and zero bananas were had.
Is that orange tree back in Edgewater Park?
The "parent" tree to that one bought it during the winter of 1982.
