Moved to Charelston w/o Knowing Anyone
Hello everyone, I just moved to Charleston about 3 weeks ago. I moved here for graduate school and do not know anyone. Does anyone have any ideas about meeting new people or how to get involved? I am fairly outgoing but it's just hard moving to a new place without having any friends and finding somewhere to start. Thanks!

I don't know if you happen to have a dog, but if you do...I met a bunch of really nice people at the dog park. A lot of us went there for the people socializing just as much as for the dog socializing!

The big park at Calhoun and meeting street is a good place to go if you are in the college age group, mostly undergrads there.

MissAMB,
My child and I did exactly the same thing last month. We moved here without knowing a soul but everyone has been so pleasant. I started volunteering at my child's school and I plan to join a yoga class. I am also checking into groups at the local church so with all this I hope to meet some very nice people.
And the very nice people who have already responded to you have given you (and me) some great ideas to expand and make connections.
Also google thecharlestonnewcomers.spaces.live.com . The gal that helped me to find a place to live added me to this group. They send out an e-mail now and then inviting newcomers to various activities in the area. I haven't been to any yet but hope to eventually.

Yesterday I was in a lighting store in MtP and the sales girl there had just moved into town. She said she takes Shag classes and goes down to Folly for shagging on the pier?
I don't know what the hell that is, but it sounded fun! That might be a cool way to meet people!
