We're planning a trip in the near future to check out the area.
We'd like a somewhat newer home (built in 2000 or newer), with approx 2000sf+, in a nice area with a little property (at least 1/3 acre) in the $250k range. Also need a good middle and high school for our 11 yr old daughter.

Although we are homebodies, we do enjoy a nice dinner out, biking, hiking and golf.
In looking at the posting it sounds like Summerville, Mt Pleasant (maybe a little out of our price range from what I'm reading) and Goose Creek maybe the areas to look in.
I appreciate any suggestions from anyone that might have some helpful advice.

Thank you so much for your time in advance.
Jovaz
Hi Jovaz, Summerville sounds like a great fit for you. There are plenty of "newer" neighborhoods in the Summerville area and it is located in the most popular, highly rated school district. GOose Creek and Mt Pleasant area also good choices depending on additional requirements. In Summerville, there is also a private school called Pinewood Prep that may be of interest. Summerville is about 30-40 minutes from downtown Charleston. Small town atmopshere with plenty of growth happening. THere are several golf course communities also. (Pine FOrest CC and Legend Oaks CC) I think your biggest challenge will be the 1/3 acre lot, however, everything is possible! Good Luck

I would agree with TJ on summerville. Mt. Pleasant may be a little bit pricey for what you are looking for. Summerville has great schools and Goose Creek does as well...depending on the area.
Is new construction important to you or do you mind something a bit older? Do you want to be in a neighborhood? With 1/3 acre lot and the 250K price range you should take a look at:
Ashborough
Bridges of Summerville (Some of the lots are larger..you have to look closely though.
Gahagan
Legend Oaks
Madison Ridge
Myers Mills
Newington
Quail Arbor
Wescott Plantation
Crowfield
Sincerely,
Foster

Smile Excited about move to Summerville

My husband and I have been visiting the Charleston and Hilton Head area for eight years. On each and every visit we are impressed by the polite manners and easy going people that live there. Upon retirement, we have visited Charleston five times in the past year house hunting. First starting in Summerville and then moved the look to West Ashley and now back to Summerville where we both feel at home and welcomed. This is not to mention finding a wonderful home in nice, safe and friendly Ashborough Estates.

Words can not express our appreciation that our real estate agent as well as all the hundreds of people that we spoke to and worked with in our search. We have yet to meet anyone with negative words on Summerville or Charleston. And, we have yet to have an unpleasant experience. Although no one town any where is 100 percent perfect and every town has some negative people, Summerville residents have pride in their community and it's history and we are very excited about making it home in the next four to five weeks. It is a dream come true and I highly recommend Summerville to anyone looking in making the Charleston area their home. Also check out Sweetwater Cafe in the town square. I highly recommend the pot roast!

jfyi every guy that got caught taking a leak behind a tree is on that site, and every guy that was a minor and got caught having sex with his girlfriend is also on that site...

they really need to redo the sexual predator list here and divide those that weren't predators from those that are, but that will take a movement from our representatives here...

although I agree we have too many it's isn't a clear picture of the predators here, but still make sure you keep your kids as safe as you can as you should anywhere

people from all walks of life are poping up on these sites, many in careers that we trust our children in

I trust no one with my kids and make that clear anytime they are supposed to be trusted in someone elses care, this way they know ahead of time they will pay more than time if they fall out of line... it's worked so far...

Summerville sounds nice but I think it may be growing too much for us. Are there any other quaint small towns near Chraleston? We're relocating from MD which has seen unbeliveable growth in the last several years....which is one reason we are moving! We don't like the cookie cutter houses on zero land. Where can you find a small town atmosphere with unique houses on a half acre or more?

You may just want to try to stay in the downtown/historic area of Summerville if you are looking for the quaint small town feel. All of the homes in this area are unique and on larger parcels of land. Otherwise, you'll have to go further inland...Walterboro is a small town.

My opinion of Walterboro is that it has everything you need, but that is about it. The downtown area is ok, but I think it lacks the charm of Summerville. The downtown is nothing but one big antique shop. I have never seen so many antique dealers in one place in my life.
What I do like about Walterboro is that it has stayed true to it's Southern ways with it's absence of transplants (LIKE ME!) When you are in Walterboro you are in a real southern town, not a northern town that happens to be in the south. In my opinion that is what gives it some of it's character. If I moved out to Walterboro I would not live in the town itself, but on the outskirts to get a larger piece of property.
