Default Can a Single income make it on the Cost of Living in Charleston?

Is anyone living on their own in Charleston? If so, how are you making it? I am a single person, in my early 30's and I am kind of astounded on how much real estate is here versus the salary income. Right now I am living with a friend, but I do not want that to be a permanent situation. I have always been independent and lived alone. Although, I have yet to meet anyone (without deep pockets) that lives alone. It seems everyone here has like 3 roommates or are married. I am not interested in getting married, and despise roommates! Any thoughts? With the salaries ranging at an average between $10-$12/hr, how can a single income afford it?

PS...It doesn't seem that I picked the wrong career field because where I came from my salary there gave me the ability to function on a single income. Thanks for the help!

Move out of the downtown area.

Summerville, Monks Corner or Goosecreek.

But even then it isn't easy to live on one income.

Get a different career...

That's about the extent of it, if the money your making isn't supporting the lifestyle you desire...

change something on either side.

I think as long as you can find something that will not put you over your head and you stay within your means you should be able to find some thing you like. Keep your chine up and your eyes open. Hope you find something you like and can swing yourself. Good luck......

Basically you need to move to an area where you can afford to live. Downtown is going to be more than Goose Creek and so on. $12 and hour isn't a lot. We raise two kids on a single $52,000.00 a year income and struggle.
