I have, now I have been here for nearly 15 years, but I started making friends as soon as I got here, some of them I still know and are friends with some I have drifted apart from, but could restart a friendship with a little effort.
Southerners are generally friendly, I preface this with if you don't act like a yankee, I know I am one and I learned long ago that if you act like you know better or are better than the people around you it will be hard to make friends who are not like you.

Well, I'm going to be totally honest.
The people that have been the nicest and warmest...were transplants. From Vermont, from NY, from MA, VA and from CO..wherever. They seem to take the most time to either welcome you, warn you, laugh with you and get to know you and tell their story.
Don't get me wrong, I've met nice natives which is wonderful. But, in my limited experience it's the people from somewhere else that make an effort to be truly friendly. Not just, surface friendly.
Please do not throw rocks!!!!

See if you can decipher this1
I love the entire Peninsula!
The Beaches are awesome!
I love the bridges. The Ravenel bridge is just stunning!
The Eastside has the flavor.
The Westside has the spice.
West Ashley has the culture.
North Chuck is crunk!
SNOB is where it's at!
MTP. is the essence.
Awendaw keeps it real!
I know I went about 10 miles too far in both directions, but I had to give all of the places I've visited it's props! Thanks.

I was wondering if any of the transplants experienced this.

Yes I am a transplant, and you can find some really nice people here rather quickly. I suggest you begin at work, church, health clubs, volunteer, attend the wealth of special events that Charleston has to offer and last but not least, there are tons of activities the Charleston county recreation centers offer, from yoga to basket weaving. Get involved!
You will be sure to find some real good friends... Good Luck!

Please don't start. You might have been one of those "yankees" that acted better than and thought you knew more then everyone else, but that is not indicative of all Northerners. OK. So just stop it!

You are doing it now, and yes I was that way until someone sat me down and talked to me and set me straight. So before you tell some one to stop doing something you should look in a mirror.

There always seems to be at least 1-3 miserable people on every thread, that are determined to say the dumbest crap and think no one should comment on their stupidity! go figure.

No rocks thrown here. I somewhat agree with you . I have tons of good friends that are are transplants, but I also have a few native carolinians that are good too. The bottom line is, be yourself, don't try to "chameleon" into what you think people want you to be. Just be true to yourself. If that makes sense.

This is not why I started this thread. I want to have people tell me what like so much about there area so people like myself would want to move and stay in an area. Slowly becoming permanent residents. What I see people doing here is what I saw in the military, they all thought there branch was best. What they lost site of was the fact that ALL the tags on their uniforms started with U.S. I may too be a Yankee but I don't care where you come from as long as you can be nice and genuine.
