After showing 10 homes today in Mt. Pleasant matching the above statement, I'd agree. There's plenty available.

Default does everyone want out of Jersey?

Well, here I am with a family of 4 and we are also looking to relocate from NJ, we are 10 minutes from Philadelphia. My husband and I are looking for a beachy southern town where we can have our own business, probably buy one that is existing. From this thread I'm reading that Mt Pleasant is a nice community for family and kids, any other recommendations? Anyone have any thoughts on nice beach towns for a mom-and-pop shop? What about surfing? My hubby lived in San Diego and surfing is important.

Having been born and raised in Philadelphia and living in Charleston (Mt. Pleasant) since 1988, I know that you would love the area. You have three beaches from which to choose. Isle of Palms, Sullivan's Island and Folly Beach. Homes in any of the beach communities are quite expensive, but dependent on you price range, Mt. Pleasant would probably provide you with good schools, a beachy feel, many housing and community options and be within minutes of the beach. The Charleston beaches probably will not provide your husband with the waves that he is used to in San Diego, but there are suffers in the area, many of whom seem to prefer Folly Beach. If you can provide us with the size of a home and general price range in which would fit your needs, I am sure that you will get all sorts of recommendations from forum members.

Might want to try parasurfing, it is the latest craze at the beaches. We don't have waves big enough for good surfing, but we have plenty of wind on the beaches.

The "beachiest" feel I think, is Folly for surfers, etc.....Sullivans has a lot, and come to think of it, a surf shop might be a good thing for them to have over there....IOP is also beachy, but in a bit more "sophisticated" style (wrong word for sure, maybe Folly is more "laid back?"....
