G-N, no longer lives in Charleston, and has not posted a single positive post about Charleston since I have been on here. You did go into the past but you did not go to the negative as G-N does on a regular basis, I have no beef with you.

Tom, I defend Charleston on a regular basis because this is my home and I love it. Do I like every facet of it? No I do not. It is still home to me. When I travel elsewhere for any length of time, I always look forward to returning. It is a good feeling to know a place like that in your life. As the afore-mentioned Pat Conroy wrote in the Prince of Tides, I too have a "Lowcountry Heart".

I do not know the man, but I get the feeling G-N cares for Charleston as much as you do. He tends to point more to the negative aspects of change Charleston has experienced and our points of perspective are varying in most cases because of that. However, it does make for thought-provoking commentary, therefore I read it. Sometimes I feel that overwhelming desire to jump into the fray. Opinions are...well, you know.

In this post string, I set the discussion timeline at 40 years. It has been an interesting period in the history of Charleston. Unprecedented growth and accompanying growing pains have been more the norm than the exception. Joe Riley's expansionist policies have not helped to calm these pains. On the contrary, it has caused a land-grab amongst the municipalities in the Tri-County area. Even to the point of adjusting the Urban Growth Boundaries as befitting the wishes of the developers. This has benefited some that post here. It has offended others that post here. Regardless of where you stand, it is undeniable that the landscape of this region has and is changing.

Once again, I stand duly chastised of dragging this happy post into the past.
.

Charleston is my hometown. For that I make no apologies.

That I feel about her/it the way I do, I also make no apologies for.

And, yes I do care about it.

Otherwise, I would not post about it.

All you care about is being bitter and negative. Let go of the hate, move on with you life.
