And now the JI movie theatre is closed. And Pic-a-Flick is now Barberitos. Harris Teeter being at Cross Creek Plaza. John's Island was mostly a rural area. You'd go over the Stono draw bridge and there was maybe 3-4 restaurants on the entire island until you got to Kiawah. I remember in the late 90s Folly being a locals beach (SC tags mostly).

Yes, in 1957 a ship ran into the old Ashley river bridge. There are pictures at the Post and Courier if you searc. The picture was taken by a P&C employee as he was near the bridge when it happened.

Since I'm on here I'll throw in a few oldies. The ESSO tanks on fire, The grocery store near Tuxberry Crossing (the intersection where Meeting Street Road takes a left and Spruill Avenue begins) ran by Herbie Livingston, the fireworks man, that exploded and killed 5 young children. I believe it was a Clover Farm grocery Store. The Rifle Club burning down. My mothers house was 2 doors out from the Rifle Club and I was first to call the fire department. In fact my brothers were in the fire department then and they showed up with numerous firetrucks.

Remember most of those. In that same area "The 4 mile drive in theater". Think it had a big neon Bugs Bunny on the screen facing Meeting Street.

In the 60's there was a bar/club near the Navy base that went by the name of the 4 and a 1/4 as I believe its street address was 425. Anybody remember it?

I don't think I saw anything mentioned so if it was I apologize. I remember a putt putt on Savannah Hwy in the early 80's. I can't recall where it was though. Maybe where Baker Porsche/Jaguar is now? I think it was on the right heading toward downtown. I grew up in Goose Creek and was about 12 or 13 so I wasn't really familiar with the area back then. But I would "cruise" with my older brother and his friend in his 442 over there. Any West Ashley folks remember where it was?

I believe you are right on, or very close. I remember going there with my wife and couldn't even hit one ball in the hole.

There was a putt-putt/par 3 place on Savannah Hwy that my dad used to take me to in the late 60's but in was on the left side on the highway heading downtown.

I saw a posting today on the CFD FB page about a recent elevator motor fire at the "Round" Holiday Inn.

Made me think back when that hotel was being built (1970/1971?) there was a rumor around town that the top floor with the restaurant and lounge would rotate. That would have been cool if it had been true.
