Are we thinking of the same Park Circle? I've been gone a little over a year, but have they cleaned it up that much?

yes, but that was not this person's original question. so really it is irrelavant.
mt pleasant is still suburbia. not quite the hipster scene.

Bryce- it is still on the up and coming side of things but for people who fashion themselves hip and want to be near other younger people that think of themselves as loving nightlife, food, design, etc it is fine. Its also affordable, not cookie cutter and a good location for people working on Daniel Island (Benefits Focus/Blackbaus/etc). Downtown, Byrnes Down, Hampton Park and the like are not affordable on a 20 year olds budget unless you take on roommates or work in a good corporate/law/medical job. And if buying is the goal Folly is usually out of the question even if rentals are still managable.
I think the humorous part is that for the most part 'hipsters' in Charleston are often the people we referred to as credit card hippies in college- they were unique/individual/etc en masse and on mom and dad's plentiful dime. Or they are taking entry level jobs here for lifestyle purposes and not professioanl ones. Sometimes the are simply junior yuppies with sunscriptions to ready-made and an art magazine. I've had friends in all three camps so I'm not necessarily knocking them but its not as if Charleston was ever the bastion of design, a creative music scene or a lot of contemporary artists/authors. We do have good food, though.

The other posters are right. Mt Pleasant is definitely not hip! Not so sure about the other mentioned areas as we are quite new but it'd be nice if more people like you moved here.

Yeah not so sure CHarleston is going to have what you are looking for -- but it might offer something else. You'll know when you visit.

Where is Bryce located? Is it a neighborhood or a town? I am a 21-year-old looking to move to Charleston as well and have been looking for this "hip" part of town. I'll be in town in the first part of February to visit and check out the area and would like to find an affordable place to live in a "younger" area. I'm a bartender, so proximity to restaurants and bars is also good for work purposes.

downtown my friend, but Charleston is very small depending where your coming from, during the school months, you have college kids running the streets, and in the summers you have tourists out the ying yang. IMO, all the cool bars are scattered around town. Really, if you want to live the life of a hipster, head to savannah.
