yes, they are a tad lumpy and i love it. not gritty, just chewable, not swallowable. Like in my picture above, those aren't so smooth that they run down your mouth and onto the floor. They would just fall off your mouth and onto the floor. get it? haha! i guess i should say thicker - more body and texture....??

Muse Restaurant and Wine Bar. My boyfriend works there and it's wonderful. It's a perfect Charleston experience - it was originally an old house, there's no interior like it in Charleston.

Muse Restaurant & Wine Bar - 82 Society Street, Charleston, SC -. You won't be disappointed!

By that description, I "think" I understand what you're saying. You don't actually mean lumpy (as in lumpy mashed potatoes)...you just mean thick (ie. not runny). Now THAT I can understand.

For shrimp & grits I like my girts a tad on the thick side also. I don't necessarily want to be able to play frisby with them, but I don't want them running all over the plate either. I also like to use a coarse grain, yellow polenta for S&Gs. At breakfast I like grits just slightly runny and served in a bowl (with a pat of butter floating in the middle).

Either way...they should be cooked tender and not in the least bit "gritty". Some people think that grits are done after 5-10 minutes of cooking because that's what the box of Quick Grits says. WRONG!!!

Anyway...I like shrimp & grits...and I make a pretty killer version myself. Although my S&Gs don't contain bacon, isn't served with a BROWN gravy, and has no milk. MMM...I need to go find me some shrimps!

I was at the boathouse the other night... ordered shrimp and grits (they were awesome). I remembered there being a thread on here with pix of the dish from various places and, since I had a camera.... (my family thought I was crazy)...

Has anyone been to the Melting Pot? I was recommending it to someone on the Indianapolis forums and found out it was a chain and that there is one here!!!! It was one of my favorites in Indy.

Hi Beth,

I'm actually the Franchisee' for The Melting Pot that has the rights to the Charleston. I agree that it is one of my favorites as well! We are still looking for a location, so hopefully we will be open by next Valentine's Day. Thank you for your kind words and I'm all ears if you have a suggestion regarding a good location. We have narrowed our search to Mt. Pleasant and Downtown, but are leaning towards MP.

Stupid- question. I heard at dinner that they were closing the Boathouse on east bay (but the other ones will remaian open.) Is this true? I like the one on IOP best anyway but thought the one on East Bay did a decent amount of business.

And now I'm hungry for shrimp and grits- arghhh.

Of course, I would prefer Mt. Pleasant, (and we need more nice restaurants on the North side of Mt P), but I assume you'd get more business closer to Charleston. I'm so excited that you're here. Good choice for a franchise, and good luck!!!!

The Boathouse on East Bay is already closed.

Note to anyone wanting to open a restaurant.....not a national chain though.....The S'Ville/Goose Creek area is dying for some good places to eat. Most of us don't want to drive downtown and Mt P to eat.
