Yes it will be nice to have one in this area. Are you sure you can hold out though? I mean I might have to grow my own food in the meantime waiting for construction to begin.

As long as you got the message Joe, that's all that matters.

OK, I see that this thread got a little off focus....
My take: I currently live and work in the metro west/south part of Boston. A house 3 -4 bed, 2 bath, approx 2000 sq feet on a postage stamp lot runs about 350-450000 dollars. With taxes and ins monthly mortgage 2000-2500, Hense why we are looking to SC.
Crime is enevatable it doesnt descriminate , Due to my occupation I am exposed to a variety of levels of the socioeconomic scale. It has been my experience that housing projects always look like housing projects, and lower scale apartments always look the same.Education is the only way out of a low paying job, lower scale neighborhood. Welfare is NOT a life style. Up here it seems like it is. 2-3 generations in the same apt all on welfare.
I'm not saying its right, its just what I have seen with my own 2 eyes.

Well- to get this back on track and interject some honesty.
Charleston does not have the greatest of retail. King Street is trending more and more towards national chains by the day and is not drawing the higher end of chains. The stores on King that are nicer tend to stock the types of wares that will sell well to college students or day trippers. The much discussed Saks in particular is not a full scale Saks but a boutique version of a Saks that you might find on site at a destination hotel. And I'm fine with these businesses dumbing it down- if it helps them make more money (or any money in today's climate) with this strategy great.
MT Pleasant Towne Center is a nice way to spend the afternoon but is really lacking in variety and even the number of stores. Citadel actually has the best anchor stores in the area but as someone mentioned the interior stores are not huge draws for the most park. Northwoods is older and draws from a more working class demographic- that said its not notably worse than Citadel except some poeple don't like the 'diversity.' The area that is probably has the best chance of getting nicer is actually Freshfield Villlage and whatever gets built around it on Johns Island. If you are willing to look around you will find plenty of boutique and stand alone stores to fill your needs, but they won't come in a nice easy package like the regional malls you'll find in other cities. And other than the fact that they are selling last year's clothes the Tanger outlet is as nice as any of the malls-and a lot of us guys can't tell the diference between a woman wearing a 2008 dress or a 2009 dress. I'll save my rant about giving a flip about nails and moisturizer.
A lot of women travel to Charlotte or Atlanta to do their heavy duty shopping. In packs or with husbands/family/boyfriends in tow. This is because Charleston offers the high end and low end but most of the middle ground is pretty thin.
