Agreed. Until we can correct the foreign trade imbalance, we keep bleeding jobs and cash. Right now, foreign governments have little incentive to curb the labor and quality control issues that result in cheaper goods produced and imported.

In the 1930's we had a massive workforce ready and WILLING to do whatever kind of work that was available to produce income for their families. This meant many thousands could be put to work in labor intensive programs around the Country, from digging ditches and moving rocks to improve byways and prepare to pave the many dirt roads throughout the land, to relocating graves by hand in preparations for building lakes such as we have in the area. This was geared toward employing the largely unskilled workforce and everyone was happy to do badbreaking work just to be back to work.
Nowadays, a major project such as rebuilding all the defective bridges and repaving large stretches of the interstate system; while worthwhile ventures, are not going to provide employment for the masses, but rather will reinvigorate specific areas of the economy. It's a different world. Dam building and road construction no longer require thousands of laborers. I am skeptical of the new employment numbers touted by this study. After all, it was compiled by City governments with an eye toward getting a piece of the Federal windfall.
For those differences, I am cautious to endorse increasing our debt to stimulate niche markets.
Just my opinion, as usual.

We'll have to see what comes out of the DC pipeline, as it is, but from what I gather the entire enterprise will center on so-called "Green Jobs" which (here's where I don't understand) cannot be shipped overseas.
I don't believe that given the rules of Algebra I we all learned way back when, a widget made at 16-cents per hour (or even zero cents per hour, as slave labor is widely used some places) will ever be more expensive than something manufactured at a decent ( or even current minimum) US wage.
Hence, the necessity for meaningful tariffs, in my opinion.

I agree we need to have equal trade with other countries, if they charge us tariffs we charge them tariffs, if they hold our goods on docks for inspection we do the same.
This is known as reciprocity.
Your concensus of Historians is the same as your consensus of Scientists on global warming....
People with more money spend more money, if we let people keep their entire paycheck then they will have more money to pay their bills and spend on improving their station in life.
Small businesses will have more money to spend on hiring new employees and expanding their business......
Just think, we would be halfway to the fairtax.....

So I looked at the Chas wish list again this morning and there's 2 projects that I'm curious about:
> Ray Site Johns Island : 660 jobs
> Johns Island Five Acres: 400 jobs
Wonder what the heck these are....parks?
I took a peak at Dallas' list and they included a project to build a HOTEL at their
convention center - price $386 MILLION. This is planned to be a govn't owned hotel. We're in trouble folks.......deep trouble.

Private sector just won't spend, so that leaves the public sector.
If you remember, there were only two state governors who were willing to repeat the Hoover path of '29: and one was Mark Sanford of SC.

There are so many things on that list that really raise my blood pressure.
So why couldn't mayors of small towns be involved in this "wish" list?

Hmmm and who in this state forcasted the major financial problem we are currently in when they vetoed hundred of millions in Pork over the last 8 years?
That very same Mark Sanford, if they would have listened to him in the first place this state would have money in the bank, no debt and not have to make drastic budget cuts just to keep the state running.
I think I will stick with the Sanford plan.

There's quite a bit of irony in the fact that Charleston, SC, an area with one of the most socialized economies in the US, is complaining of "pork" spending.

I have never supported King Joe's socialistic approach to government, most of the people in this area are liberals and believe in socialistic views and that goverment should take care of them from cradle to grave.
I am a Libertarian, not Republican, I am truely conservative fiscally.
