It would be great if it snowed tonight, as a lot of people will be suprised when they look out the window tomorrow morning. I don't want to be the bearer of bad news, but I think someone will get at least a couple inches in the area.
Actually they said that the greater Charleston area may see some flurries, but it probably won't be cold enough for it to stick. But west of I-95 is supposed to get more snow, which might actually stick. I wouldn't mind some....for one day only! lol
We have actually had accumulation here before....3 or 4 times that I can remember we got at least an inch. One time I had 5 foot drifts up against my house! It was beautiful! That was in December, the year of Hurricane Hugo.
five feet? seriously? i heard there were dustings here on a rare occasion...but not often. we ar ehoping for as much as possible! but i am guessing we won't see any at all....
That was my first year here, I had just moved down from Upstate NY, Balstonspa, where we had had 100". That snow storm cripled SC for over a week, Only six inches of snow fell but in some cases like Beachy's there were some large drifts.
OTC the Tail Race bridge might be a litte slippery in the morning. Bill Walsh made me laugh tonight when he said that area might get some lake effect snow. It just sounded funny talking about here.
Here is the forecast from the Chas. Weather Service....for the Goose Creek area anyway. lol
Tonight: A chance of rain, mainly after 1am. Cloudy, with a low around 36. South wind 6 to 13 mph becoming west. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
Tuesday: A chance of rain before 8am, then a chance of rain and snow showers between 8am and 10am, then a chance of snow showers after 10am. Cloudy, with a high near 40. North wind between 14 and 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
Tuesday Night: A slight chance of flurries before 1am. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 22. Wind chill values as low as 15. Northwest wind between 7 and 9 mph.
I have over 2-3 feet in my front yard and had to shovel off my roof and we are just getting started. I will be happy to send you some snow if you would like....
I had just returned from Charleston (helped family thru Hugo) when that snowstorm hit. What made it unique, from what I understand, is that there was wind with it. Most Charleston snows are like the lake-effect we get up here off Superior or Michigan: light fluffy stuff that falls straight down.
FYI, the "Unofficial" (as it was before official records were kept) single-event snowfall for Charleston is 18" which fell back in 1800.
Weird, until you realize that in 1890, when official records were kept, blizzard conditions were recorded over the Central-Florida peninsula.
No, no....You can keep it up there. I'm ready for spring. I've had enough of this cold. lol
