Can anyone tell me any i nfo on the James Island Soccer club vs the Park and rec Programs for the 5-8 year old groups? Is one better then the other? Are they really that different?

The James Island Soccer Club has been in existence for many years and obviously has a focus directly on soccer. It was developed to offer a recreational level as well as a more competitive level and have more things like tournaments and traveling teams versus strictly a local league. I don't much about how it operates now, but that was its origiin and I would guess it's still similar.

I will tell you my rather crude and simplistic way to find out info....google James Island SC youth soccer. If you've done this already and still need more info....just ignore my suggestion. Sometimes we can overlook the easiest way to find information.

As they say in soccer 'SCORE"...."SCORE"....."SCORE" I did the google thing and look what I found.....

South Carolina Youth Soccer Association (http://www.scysa.org/cupsgames_tournaments.shtml - broken link)

Looks like there is quite the organized youth soccer......

My son played with the James Island Soccer League for 9 years and it is very well organized. The coaches aren't just high school kids, but people with coaching and playing experience. It is very organized and yes, they practiced several times each week and games several times each week, but mostly on Saturdays. They play some very good teams in the area. I think the Rec. center is a little more laid back, high school student coaches or dads and moms...less competitive. If your child just wants to be around other kids, learn teamwork, rules, etc., then maybe the Rec. center is best, but if your child really wants to learn competitive soccer with a chance to make the Classic League then I would opt for James Island Soccer club.

In defense of the OP, I can tell you the websites don't tell "everything". I dealt with the same thing when I moved here regarding the Mt P program, and you really need to talk to people that have been in the program to get the real scoop, differences of the programs etc...
