We have sweet tea! Even McD's has it here. But, the best is at Chick-Fil-A!

I agree, Chick-Fil-A has the best sweet tea. I don't go to McD's. I couldn't find it in the couple of restaurants we went to in the Baltimore area. I was offered raspberry tea....That is not sweet tea. lol

Default Move to SC

My wife and I looking to move south to prepare for retirement. We are planning to visit Summerville in the middle of the summer to get a feel for the heat and humidity. I lived in North Charleston when I was a kid, but those memories (as far as weather) are not fresh in my mind.
My dad's family is from SC. They got off the boat in Charleston in 1752 and settled in the Dutch Fork region (WNW of Columbia). He was a lifer in the Air Force. He met my mother (from Washington, DC) when he was stationed at Andrews AFB. Later, he was stationed at Charleston, AFB.
We lived in a neighborhood with an aunt, uncle, their families, and my grandfather. At family gatherings I remember the adults playing pinochle and everyone eating goober peas. I also loved eating grits and black-eyed peas n' rice.
My mom's side of the family got off the boat in MD in 1634 and settled in Washington, DC. We settled in the MD suburbs after my dad retired from the AF and would still visit family in SC.
Being the Air Force Brat, I have lived the lifestyle of living where someone else assigns you to, and choosing where you would like to live (only after dad's retirement). Complaining about the environment that you live in is an indication that you don't like where you are. If you have been assigned, you must wait for a new assignment. If you have chosen, you have the power to change your environment at your convienience.
As far as the N-S perception of MD goes: People from PA consider Marylanders to be Southerners. People from VA consider Marylanders to be Northerners. So, I think the entire state of MD is the Mason-Dixon Line".
Anyway, "Northerner" - "Southerner" -- Call me anything but late for dinner, especially when we can have low country boil, shrimp n' grits, black-eyed peas n' rice, cornbread, goober peas, sweet tea, and peach cobbler.

At some point, you as a northerner will become frustrated by this (perhaps in line at the bank or grocery store, or trying to get an employee to move a little faster), and voice your displeasure. That is when you get labeled a rude northerner. It doesnt seem to affect making friends and what not, so I wouldnt let "acceptance" hold you back from moving at all . Just know that people are slow slow slow here and you will have to deal with it. It sounds great if you are on vacation but not when you are trying to get wotk done.
This might be the "slow" southerner in me, but you sir are an idiot. I just moved from Charleston to New Britain, CT. I can't believe the people up here could be so rude. There are exceptions, sure...but the overwhelming majority are, pardon my language, *******s.

Bigmig is kind of right, and exactly what Southerner's expect from Rude Northerners and why we end up going eveeeennnnnn sslllloooooowwwwwweeeeerrrrrr when we figure you out. You tailgate me... I will block you in going 30 mph in a 55. You yell at me to hurry up ringing up groceries... I will miss a sticker & call a price check.

It's a subtle meanness, but we only do it if you complain, look like you are in a rush, or make Rude Northerner comments. And if you DARE comment on our "mental slowness," then our good ole boy networks will pass your license plates around so everyone treats you the same.

I do not believe for one minute the south is more friendly than the north .
I would say there is absolutely no difference between the two.
Your comment no matter how tongue in cheek confirms the kind of person you are, what you are accusing a northerner of , you are doing yourself.
Coming from Newport RI one thing i never did see or believe existed there was snobbery, it seems to be ripe down here in certain areas.
