Default Sushi - Charleston/Mt. Pleasant

So. What's out there. I've been to Sushi Haru in MP and it was good. It's one of the few places I've been to that actually had toro and uni (the toro was great, by the way).

I've done Tsunami in MP...so please no recommendations for that place. Over priced, small portions, and just to "hip" to offer what I consider good sushi. I never want to grace the front door of a Tsunami again.

I generally don't do hibachi, but I have found good sushi at one or two so it's not out of the question.

One of my all time favorite sushi places (down in Beaufort) is just a small hole in the wall place that has 3 tables and a 4 chair bar. It's run by an old Japanese gentleman and he's the only employee. Is there a place like this around the greater Charleston area?

I don't get exited about a place that has 100 different maki (rolls) to choose from. To me, all those rolls are nice but I prefer to just have some good fish, a decent portion, and a reasonable price for what is presented to me.

I'm really looking for 'authentic' sushi...not the more modern sushi places.

I really like Wasabi which is a block south of the Market on State Street.

Osaka is pretty good. It's a stand alone building in the parking lot of the Windemere Shopping Center (Folly Road in West Ashley.)

Fomiko Sushi. It's in one of the strips out at Shell Point shopping center (I know that's not the name, but it's the best I can do right now). Where I'm talking about is at the intersection of 280 & 802.

The sushi has been down in quality the past couple of times we've been in there, but Mr. Lee has a house specialty roll that is one of the best I've put in my mouth. I don't usually go crazy over rolls, but this one is great. It's called the Fomiko Maki and we will drive from Charleston to Beaufort just to order two and some soup.

We ate at the Oriental Garden in Mount P... I really liked it. I thought the sushi was very fresh, and the pieces are huge.

Haven't found a sushi place I like here. I love sushi and love the smaller places. When I was in SF it was so easy to find a good place. I love sushi and I miss eating it bad.
So here we go to Thai a lot. Basil is awesome and the good news they are putting one in Mount Pleasant..signs up and everything.

I'd like to find a good Thai place also. We went to Basil some time ago and were not impressed. Seemed a bit pretentious to me.

I've had good Thai food and would love to find at least one good place around here.
