Smile Where do I start in Charleston??

In the next few months I will most likely be moving to Charleston for work. Are there any areas of Charleston that would be unsafe for a 20 something' single girl to live or could someone give me any suggestions where might be good and reasonably priced (to rent for now). I have never been there so I wouldn't even know where to start. I live in So. Fla right now so beachtowns would be my preference but which ones would be best, and again, most reasonable? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

have you thought about james island? close to folly beach and downtown for work/nightlife. pretty reasonably priced and most areas are safe. just avoid camp road but there are many nice neighborhoods...new developments and older settled streets.

If you think this persons advice is worth considering drive through James Island en route to Folly then drive past the Whitehall, Wescott, Coosaw Creek sub divisions en route to Trolley and Ladson Rd and it will crystal clear he or she drives around with their eyes closed or with rose tinted glasses on.
Then read his/her last post on Bad areas in Charleston to understand my comment

Thanks, I will check it all out. Yes I am laid back but I do love hustle and bustle of downtown areas so I guess I'm pretty flexible.

you need to grow up. i simply stated my opinion on the other thread about my general impression on north charleston. are there less then desirable areas on JI? sure. just like any other area. but some really nice, safe, clean, quiet neighborhhods too, actually most of them it seems. do i feel safer there then in any area of North Charleston...of course, no question! for a young person moving to the area who is looking for work and a social life, i think many would agree with my james isalnd or downtown would be a better fit then anywhere in north charleston.

why start a fight for the sake of fighting over different people from different backgrounds giving impressions on the area.

relax and find somehting better to do.

Speaking as a mom here. If my daughter was looking at this area, being a single woman. I would feel better if she moved to Mt Pleasant. The rent downtown is high and crime is higher but you won't hear about it in the media. It would ruin the tourist dollars. I don't know enough about JI to give opinions.
