Smile Young, Prof. City Couple Move to Charleston - Apts, Neighborhoods Advice?

I am considering moving to Charleston next year and am seeking advice as to the best neighborhoods for me. My husband and I are both 29 years old, no kids, no pets. I have alternately lived in NYC and DC for 12 years now, but grew up in Tampa. I love the restaurants, shopping, diversity, and events of the big cities, but desperately want better weather, beaches, work-life balance and cost-of-living. I'd prefer to rent.

I'd love to live in a 2 bed/2 bath (maybe around 1,500 s.f.) with big windows and ocean views in a trendy, safe neighborhood with a short commute to work (big law firm for me, hospital for my husband). Does such a thing exist in Charleston? If so, does it come in the form of the modern, luxury condo/loft or is it more typically an older, charming, historic building? Or are both options available? Which neighborhoods would fit the bill? And how much would rent run on something like that?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Many thanks in advance!
