It's one of the proposals.

All of Horry County supports Bike Week with the exception of the City Limits of Myrtle Beach ... can you believe what the City of Myrtle Beach has done passing a helmet law which again will be only in the City Limits of MB ... the State of SC doesn't have a helmet law nor does any other place in South Carolina ... it will be interesting to see how this law holds up in court.
The MB City Council passed 15 new ordinances banning all rallies, the helmet law, a noise ordinance for loud pipes ... they did amend the only one motorcycle to a parking space and changed that to allow 2 bikes to a parking space in the new laws. I wear a helmet so that doesn't bother me, but if you don't want to wear a helmet that's your decision. There is 3 lawsuits against the city right now regarding some of the new laws.
MB Bike Week is on as planned just go around MB ... spend your money in North MB, Surfside, Garden City or at SBB at Murrells Inlet.
City of MB New Ordinances
This website has best ways to avoid the City of MB and lists events in the other areas.

Not true by a long shot. I am not within the city limits of MB and I and many of my neighbors oppose it strenuously. It has changed over the years. Now it's like having a twice-a-year thug festival come to your community.
I have written many times that the tradititional Harley crowd is not included in this opposition. The younger ones don't know how to act and their fellow bikers don't seem to have a problem with that.
It will be so much better when it's in Charleston. Roarin' down Meeting St to the Battery. Knocking over flower boxes on the narrow streets. Spraying graffiti on national treasures.
I'll be there, but not on a bike.

While you may oppose it, ask ANY waiter/ress or the store or hotel/motel owners. They love Harley bike week! They make money, they are tipped well and let us not even go the issue of the economy and how much the funds ARE needed even in MB.
Now, let's be real and honest about this topic and do so at the risk of making someone mad, which is NOT my intent. It is the week following the Harley bike week in May that is the problem. MB is turned upside down and they had to pull the reigns in on this and to do so they had to force this upon both crowds. Because God forbid we call a spade a spade and NOT be PC.
The Harley crowd aren't obnoxious nor do they seek to wreck property or damage it. And to insinuate so is crap. As far as the comment about the *younger bikers*....first of all IF you knew anything about *bikers* you would know there is NO comparison. They are what the *bikers* call RUBS.
But whether you are in fact a RUB, a homeless person, a vet or have a kid that you can't buy Christmas for, they will in fact be the first to open their heart and wallets even when they don't have it and they will do so while ridin' their scoot.
But what makes no sense is that you oppose this crowd, yet would join them in Charleston.

I would join them in Charleston for the spectacle.
You're romanticizing quite a bit, aren't you? I have biker friends that would fit your description to the last detail. But they won't go to the bike week (either of them) at Myrtle Beach anymore because of the reasons I describe.
You got to admit, Charleston would be a much more interesting clash of interests and would therefore be more entertaining, at least during the five minutes before the cops put a stop to it, or the fifteen seconds south of Broad St.

I highly doubt Charleston wants bike week to come here. Downtown has a noise ordinance so I could see the police enforcing it with the loud bikes.

No, I am not romanticizing at all. There are many that don't participate in that RUB mentality. But, you seem to be the one who is fantasizing because I can and will tell you that bikers don't consider themselves a *biker*. It is a lifestyle and more importantly a brotherhood and there is quite a difference.
Charleston is a pretty accepting place, as there are many lifestyles and cultures there, so no I don't think that there would be an entertainment factor. As a matter of fact at one time there was a bike week in Charleston on a much smaller scale. And the cops wouldn't have to put a stop to anything. They wouldn't be doing anything wrong.
Again, you make no sense....if they bother you so, why chase them? Just stay up near MB and when that area no longer has the dollars coming in and raise your taxes, don't complain.

The effect on the schools should both bike weeks just not happen has been calculated. It's not much.
Charleston is going to dig it big time!
