I hear what everybody is saying. Whether it is PC, healthy, unhealthy, isn't the issue with me. If you want to take the chance on harming yourself, thats your business. I'm not even worried about 2nd hand smoke (although I know it is harmful). I just hate the fact that if My wife, kids, and I go to a restaurant that allows smoking, we have to end up SMELLING like smoke. We simply would like to have a good meal without having to need showers directly afterwards. Also, if the smoke is really thick, my nose starts to run. May seem funny to some, but maybe the smokers wouldn't mind if I use there shirt for a hankerchief. I already know the response i will get, if you can't stand the smoke, don't go out to eat. Anyway, this debate could go on forever. Smokers should have the right to smoke, and non smokers should have the right to go to an establishment and not have to smell like smoke. Maybe someday there will be some common ground. Until then, Keep smoking and I'll keep slingin snot!

It's pretty simple, I will no longer go into a smoke allowed restaurant, period. As more and more people do this, and I think more and more people are, and these restaurants continue to lose business maybe they will wise up. After all, which sections have more tables and longer waits? The non-smoking sections. How many times have us non-smokers been offered to be seated right away in the smoking sections, but non-smoking is a 30-45 minute wait? If that doesn't tell you who the majority is eating out at restaurants then I don't know what does. If I can't get an hour of common courtesy at an establishment where I am spending my money then screw em', I'll take my business elsewhere.

This is the correct way to handle the smoking/non-smoking resturant problem, and it doesn't require any government intervention....

I totally agree.
However, this still doesn't answer the issue of the continuing escalation of unfair taxation on cigarettes by the gov't. What will be next? Our addictive caffeine habits??

I know of a certain small restaurant on the coast of North Carolina that sat just 82 people. The smoking side had room for 28 with the remainder (54) being non-smoking. Quite frequently the non-smoking side would be full and have people waiting to sit there while there were open tables on the non-smoking side.
Times are changing...for the better, in my opinion.
