Mount Pleasant looks like a very lovely place to live. It may be in our future. We love having our own pool, especially living in a sub-tropical climate down here by New Orleans. We all have neighborhood pools as well as personal ones, but after browsing the realtor sites for Mt.Pleasant, it doesn't look like many people have pools in their own backyards. Are there a lot of restrictions for this in the neighborhood association rules?...or do folks just like the nearby beaches? (being over 50, I really don't enjoy the idea of sharing my body in a bathing suit with the whole neighborhood...argh)

Some homes have pools here but not many. A pool (unless heated) can really only be used from April -October. Most neighborhoods have community pools. Believe me I agree I prefer to have my own pool to as I did in Florida. Maybe some neighborhoods have restrictions but I have seen pools in Rivertowne/Dunes West/Park West/Hamlin/Brickyard.
Have your Realtor send you homes with pools in Mt P. I found 57 listings with pools in yard ranging from 299K and up. Actually most were over 400K, only one was 299K.

I agree, there are quite a few, but the price point may be the determining factor. Since pools do little in the way of adding value to the home (almost the opposite sometimes), few owners are/have been willing to build them, especially if there's a neighborhood pool in the subdivision. There are a number of them out there in Mt. P, they're just not as common for the above reasons and the proximity to the beaches.
