Best Thai restaurant!
Trying to find a good Thai restaurant in the area - or the best Thai restaurant, preferably.

I'd like to know as well.
We went to Jasmine Thai on James Island once (the one and only time) and I definitely don't recommend it.
Service was exceptionally slow (it took 10 minutes just to get our beverages and another 10 minutes for them to take our order). We ended up having to get our order to go because it took so long.
Plus, the food didn't appear to be fresh, and it was over-cooked.

Went to Basil once...wasn't impressed. Seemed to be "preppy American" Thai food...not the real thing. We haven't been back and have no plans to.
When I go to an ethnic restaurant I want it to be at least somewhat authentic. If I want Americanized ethnic, I'd just as soon get it from the frozen foods section at the local grocery store.
Went to the place over on James Island a while back. We'd go back there before venturing to Basil.
So far, we've not found Thai that we like around the area. Hope to, though.

I have been to a new Thai place (or at least new to me since I never noticed it before) a couple of times. Its in the shopping center where the Walmart used to be in West Ashley. I was pleasantly surprised. I think it and Basil are pretty equal with basil having better appetizers and that fried banana desert that kills but this place seemed to have a larger menu. I'll check the name the next time I am in the area.
There is another Thai place near Citadel Mall but I swear its the same people that used to be Little Thai to on King. Its okay but not as good as Basil or this new place. And I'll agree with everyone who doesn't like Jasmine- maybe that is real Thai and I like Americanized.
Basil definitely has the best location but sometimes the line is a bit much. They do a great job turning over tables at lunch though.
