Default Charleston County School of the Arts

I wanted to know if I could get some information on the Charleston County School of the Arts. I applied for the Principal and Assistant Principal positions at the school. I figure it might be a long-shot, being that I'm from out-of-state and not working in the area, but just in case I do get an interview, I thought it would be good to get some information about the school and the area.

Can anyone tell me about the school or the area?

I'll give what little bit of info I know.. they already hired a principal fairly recently. I know many kids that go there, and the kids that live in Mt. Pleasant switch to Wando for H.S. because Wando has a better band, theater arts program, writers can get in on one of the best school newspapers in the U.S. and academics are good.
However, many try to get in via one of the arts in M.S. because academically, it's supposed to be better than other local Middle Schools. Right now the school is spread among several trailers while they wait for the new building to be completed (next December?) The building is supposed to combine SOA and Acad. Magnet, but still keeping the 2 schools separate. Apparently that is uncertain as Magnet is worried there could be a future merging of the two, possibly compromising Magnet's high national ranking. That's what I know/have heard.
As for the area, it's N. Charleston, but I believe it's an okay part of N. Charleston.??
Good luck!!!!!

Thanks! I saw last week the posting for principal, which just closed, and then the Asst. Principal, which just opened up yesterday.

I'd read up on the current state of Chas. Co School District before I made a move. Pretty disorganized...

However, if you are absolutely relocating, I'd check out Dorchester Co II and Berkeley Co for more options. Both are effectively run districts and enjoy a prestigious reputation throughout the state.

Considering the district I currently work for, it might still be a step up...

If I were to work in Charleston, it would solely be because of the opportunity to work at School of the Arts.
