Default Hello from a lurker, and a few questions :)

Hi everyone - I've been reading this forum for around a year now, when my husband and I decided to make the move down to Summerville - we're originally from NYC and Westchester. Now that we have an offer in on a house, I guess we are staying for a while, so I decided to make an account here (I think my husband is registered here already).

First off, thank you for all of the helpful information posted here that I've read over this past year! It's helped this fish out of water become a bit more comfortable in her new state.

As for the questions - just some opinions on the Ashborough subdivision in Summerville. Are there many young families there? Is the HOA good? Any sort of opinion is welcome

Second - since the house we will (hopefully) be buying is a foreclosure, does anyone here have any recommendations on a good general contractor? The one guy we spoke to quoted us $10k more than what a similar service in NY would have been (and that is saying something, haha). We would be looking for work ranging from putting in new windows, to possibly adding a dormer.

Thanks everyone!

Jennings Smith, Reality Construction - 843-296-8510. He is a builder in Summerville who builds custom homes and does contracting work as well. He's extremely diligent, honest and does a great job. (Full disclosure...he does also happen to be my son, but he's the finest contractor I know.) Good luck to you with your foreclosure.

I will second SCDweller about his Son. He never did do any work for us, but what a super nice guy! Of the contractors we called he was the most honest, level headed one we interviewed. Our plans changed is the only reason we did not contract him, if ever in the future we do need work, i wouldn't hesitate calling him again.

Thank you so much for the recommendation! As soon as the offer goes through, I'll give him a call

And yes pokrplr, I'm from NYC, and the husband is from Westchester, NY - specifically Hawthorne.

Hi! We are also from NY (Long Island) and are seriously considering Summerville for relocation. We have been there several times and really like Ashborough the best so far. I really like the Beech Hill Elementary and new Ashley Ridge High School that the kids from Ashborough go to. There is also a website for Ashborough that may help. For some reason, the homes and schools that we like seem to always lead to the Ashborough sub-division. When driving through there, we try and stop to talk to people that are out and about and always get a positive vibe. Anyway, I'm no expert, but just thought I would put in my two cents, hope it helps a little.

Good luck with your move and enjoy your new home!!!

Barbara,
We are in Massapequa Park and have already decided on Del Webb Community in Summerville. We don't need to worry about schools...ours are 24 and 21 and pretty much on their own. My husband needs 2 more years to retire and then we are out of here (hope we can sell our house).I can't wait to get off the Island..........and we were both born here!
