Just giving the views of many long-time residents.
Not everyone is into pretensious box dwellings with the requisite palmetto and banana scrub to hide the construction flaws.
Ever read Carl Hiaasen? Although I'm not even in the league four levels below his league.

I believe the poster asked if the local beaches are nice, not are the long-time residents pissed....but it seems like every post is an opportunity for you to rant....you're angry, divisive and you label people...these are not good characteristics....you sound like a guy who needs a good....

Maybe a little murky right nearshore from wave energy, but nice blue color offshore? Should I just bag it and go to Florida?

If you go into the picture thread there are a couple of nice shots of the beach and it looks really nice to me.

And you sound like someone who's read an article in Southern Living and is now an expert on the area.
I assure you I'm neither angry, or dismissive of either the new or old locals. This forum is designed to give info on specific areas, and it turns out more often or not to be mis-info as Americans are way too in touch with their inner Homer Simpson when it comes to relocating- and have always been.
I encourage you and anyone to read "Restless Naton" by James Jasper if you are interested in what I mean.
Part of that Simpsonish behavior pattern is the belief that you can move to any area without knowing its history, and not be affected by that history. As one who has deep roots in the Lowcountry, I don't need you or anyone to censor what info I provide on that aspect of the joint.
So, have a fun life.

"I encourage you" to read the post...The person is comparing SC beaches to Florida beaches for a VACATION not a relocation.... (Dough!..whose Homer Simpson?) I didn't say you were dismissive, I said you were divisive and now you're labeling "Americans"....that's not good.
"And you sound like someone who's read an article in Southern Living and are now an expert on the area"...What do you base this statement on?
Please foward me examples of when I have ever posed as person who knows anything about Charleston first hand....I'll save you the trouble, you can't.

The shag is a type of dance. Not sure what it looks like, but that is what I heard. It is funny to hear it used in that context.

Okay, dumb question of the day... if I want to visit Folly Beach, where do I park? I've only been to IOP so far, and have lived here almost a year, but the parking is so easy there!

I grew up in Jacksonville, Fl, vacationed at Panama City, FL, Va Beach, OBX, and IOP and I have to say the actual ocean color is all about the same on the east coast.. that greenish/grey color. The sand color is the only difference I've noticed. P/City (Fl) has whiter sand and more glare while on it. Otherwise, all the beaches all look similar. Some are just more populated, others more isolated.
My east coast beach preference has always been Va Beach.. only because they "groom" their beaches and have a wonderful, very wide concrete concourse that is beautifully landscaped and accommodes separate paths for walkers, bikers, skaters.. you never see a speck of seaweed or trash on their beaches... and no private homes on Ocean Blvd.. only hotels, suites, restaurants, condo rentals and entertainment areas (outdoor movies, bands, etc)
My second choice is the OBX beaches in Corolla, NC if you're looking for raw beaches you can let your pets roam and feel that the beach is yours alone.. but the oceanfront, much like IOP is 99% very large private houses for rent and you generally need a large groups of people sharing the cost.
IOP has a small public area right over the bridge, with a small couple of blocks of streets designated as "touristy" with shops and eateries, and it's very quaint. The rest of IOP are mostly private homes rented out.
Folly Beach, for some reason has darker sand.. almost black in spots. It's very raw, but has a very nice pier. The majority of the homes are very old and more like living in the '60's kind of place.
If you are looking for clearer water then you need to head to the Keys.. It all depends on what you are looking for.
