I am planning a getaway to IOP on Memorial Day weekend. I don't swim in the ocean, but like to look at it. I want some quite time, ability to swim in the pool, and see beautiful sunrise/sunsets. I am looking at the posibility of renting a condo in Port O Call (Wild Dunes) or Sea Cabins. Which place in your opinion is nicer and fits my needs most?
Dorothea (aka "Dottie") Benton is a wonderful Lowcountry author...try "Sullivan's Island" or any of her other books. Pat Conroy is another excellent author..."Prince of Tides" is one of my favorites of his.

Yes, I totally agree with SCbeaches.. Dorthea Benton Frank is my favorite. Her Isle of Palms and Sullivan's Island titles are great reads. Mary Alice Monroe is another.. Cassandra King (Pat's wife) and several others ..they all seem to be best friends that novel together about the area.

Author -- Nicole Seitz

Two books -- The Spirit of Sweetgrass It is perfect...especially if you are in the Mount Pleasant area and drive along 17.

I am going to get back to the conversation about folly vs. iop? Are any of the beaches overcrowded. My family and helping me move down to the Charleston area! Wahoo!!! The want to vacation why we are down here. Should we go with IOP or Folly. My bro and I are in our early 20's. I want my parents to enjoy the beach not being too crowded but I would also like to enjoy Folly because it seems where all the locals go. Opinions?

Go to Sullivans' Island with the Old people, like me and the DW, the you and your brother can hit Folly or IOP.

Haha well my parents aren't that old. My mom is not even 50 yet so there is still gas left in the tank. But do you think folly is not a good choice for my mom, dad, brother, and I? We want to spend about 2 or 3 days by the ocean. Is folly overly crowded that we would not all enjoy it?

Folly tends to be more of a young crowd, you mother may end up beating your father with the beach umbrella. Sullivan's Island is the calmest with a real nice beach and not really crowded. IOP is more of the touristy beach.
