Geography: Don't leave home without it.

From World Book Encyclopedia:

"South Carolina has few natural lakes."

There are three artificial lakes (Moultrie, Murray, Marion) that were created for rural elecrtification by The New Deal back in the 30's.

Cleanliness is in the eye of the beholder, if the average for this forum is also your average, so the judgement is yours on that issue.

Sorry to be so blunt.

I'm sure others will reply to your question.

.

Not at all. But I try to understand the basics of a place before I visit or ask questions.

Here's an example:

I am very familiar with the termites of the SE, but no so much with the dryland ones of the SW.

So, I am currently doing research on those species of critter via internet, including this forum.

It is true that you might just find an alligator in Lowcountry lakes! At Santee State Park people wade in the water on the beach, but most just use the lake for boating and fishing. Locals tend to go to the beach (ocean) and pools for swimming.

To be sure, I have been to Lions Beach.

And Shortstay.

But as was said, among long-time locals (> 3 generations) freshwater is looked upon as dirty and full of snakes.

We go to the ocean, which has sharks, and can also be dirty.

Esp. before Ft Gailliard was built.
