WOW... did not know you can have property there....
Well of course I know it is in the surrounding area.... not in the National Park of course.
Upstate NY where I lived.. it was nice seeing and hiking the mountains and also had lakes to canoe in.
Spent quite a few summers in New Hampshire and enjoyed it as well... just too cold and too much snow to relocate up there... we want warm weather, well ok humid and hot during the summer... but no more winter coats and windshield ice scraping and can bike all year long... hmm lovely.
The National Park would be a real nice place to get away to from Charleston and very close !

We are transplants from metro areas (Boston/Los Angeles) and live in the Beresford Creek Landing section of Daniel Island... all we can say is ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT. We have found there to be more diversity and open minded transplants in DI than any other area in Charleston and the surrounding areas. We have three kids and had them in private school, except for the kindergartner. After 1 year at Daniel Island School, we decided to pull the other two out of private school and place them in Daniel Island School because we were so impressed with their academic programs as well as their extra curricular activities.
The homes in our neighborhood have very generous sized lots and you can still find a large, 5bd/3ba home with over 3,000sf home for around 400k. Check out the real estate map at: http://www.charlestonrealestateguide.com/2901858.html Home in Charleston,SC: 1409 Creek House Ln - $425,000
We would be happy to point you in the right direction if you are interested in DI, our email is [email]melissa_and_peter@yahoo.com.

That house is off of Clements Ferry road.
While on Daniel Island, the subdivisions off of Clements Ferry are not the ones that are typically mentioned when talking about Daniel Island - so, it will have a much different feel. The original poster should take exit 24 off of I-526 to view the neotraditional neighborhoods considered to be 'Daniel Island.' In those neighborhoods, 3000 sf will cost upwards of 550-600k plus.

One thing I will say about Daniel Island and outer Mt Pleasant is you need to drive them at high traffic times to get a true feel. Buzzing through at 10 am or 3 pm is absolutely no indicater of what most of us would face. This is obviously true for the entire area but expecially those two, West Ashley more than two or three lights from downtown or 526, Sumerville and James Island.
If someone is cross shopping outer Mt Pleasant I think Beresford Creek is a fair comparison in terms of houses and proximity to roads/shopping/etc. The urbanist portion of DI would be more comparable to soemthing like Ion or an older walkable neighborhood.

Hi *G*
Thanks for the comment and advice...
I will check various areas in DI of course
Question....
We are looking for a touch below the 550K to 600K range.
Any comments on something for the 400-475K range ?
And comments on the school system.. both elementary and high school.
Thanks again for the input *G*

As another Yankee interested in the area, may I ask can anyone comment on the high crime rate in the Charleston area? Is it true? What / where to avoid? How does it affect daily life?

Well the crime is mostly centralized to a few really bad areas...
Stay away from them and you should be ok....
