Default Hilton Head Island

Before going to college, I took a year off and decided to live on my own and learn a thing or two about the real world. I had some family living in Bluffton, SC, so I started from there. Of course, being from Los Angeles, CA, I was very disappointed with what beaufort county had to offer in terms of entertainment. To make a long story short, I had some of the best times of my life in Hilton Head Island. I do not know what it is about that small retirement community that I find so appealing, but I do miss it dearly. I worked on Hilton Head Island and eventually moved in with my boyfriend (we lived in a community not too far from Tide Point, although I am not very good with names). When it was time to leave for college, I cried because I had become so used to life there. The beaches are beautiful, the sun is plentiful, the food is great (I had to exercise a lot because there were so many good places to eat). While the island is small, I do believe that there is plenty to do if you take the initiative to be creative and find something to do. My family members, who have lived in California most of their lives, hated South Carolina and especially Hilton Head Island. I did not find Bluffton disagreeable, but I think it lacks character...Hilton Head Island has a charm all its own. I look forward to returning there again this summer. It makes me sad that I spent over a year in Hilton Head Island and I never had the opportunity to go visit certain places, for example some great bike trails, other good restaurants, other islands, etc. It was only after I left that I discovered what I missed out on.

Funny, but it's so true that you can gain new appreciation for life experiences as you get a little older and reflect on things. I agree that Hilton Head is a wonderful place! Each area of the country offers something good and unique, and after living in and visiting several different states, South Carolina has been home to me and my wife & family for the last 4 years and we are very happy to be here!

We haven't been to Hilton Head Island in about 25 years. I remember loving it while we were there. Obviously with the two of you recommending it so, it hasn't run down with age and still holds some charm

Where did you all stay at while there? We were at the plantation that had the Hilton on the oceanfront.. Palmetto Dunes??? and back then the high tide came up to the stairs.. they surely must have had to renourish the beach on that side?

What specifically made you fall in love with it? ..besides the food and the beautiful live oaks and landscaping.

We should take a trip down there and check it out again.
